GRASC Coaching Application
This is GRASC's standing application for coaches, assistant coaches, and team managers. It stays open year-round and covers every program — travel teams, in-house, tournaments, and Little NetBusters. Tell us who you are and how you'd like to help, and the right coordinator will follow up.
Who Can Apply
Coaches and team managers must be 18 or older. High school students 16+ are welcome to apply for Little NetBusters assistant roles. No prior coaching experience is required for in-house and younger age groups — we'll provide guidance and support.
When We Need Coaches
We staff teams across all three seasons: summer travel and in-house (June–August), fall travel and 6v6 (September–November), and our winter indoor/futsal pilot. Apply anytime; we match coaches to openings as each season's rosters form.
Where You'll Coach
Practices and home games are held at GRASC fields and partner facilities around Grand Rapids. Travel teams play tournaments and league games across the region.
Time Commitments
Most teams practice 1–3 times per week depending on age group and program, plus games on weekends. In-house and Little NetBusters are a lighter, single-session-per-week commitment. We'll match you to a role that fits your availability.
Game Days
Travel teams play league matches and tournaments, mostly on weekends. In-house games are typically a single weekday or weekend session. Game schedules are set each season and shared well in advance.
Coach Gear
Approved coaches receive a GRASC coach jersey or shirt. There's nothing to purchase to coach with us.
Requirements and Costs
There's no cost to apply or coach. Before being rostered, every coach must complete a background check, SafeSport certification, and concussion training. These are required by MYSA and US Youth Soccer — we'll send you the links and walk you through them.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need experience to coach?
No. For in-house and younger groups, a willingness to help is enough — coordinators provide support. Travel teams prefer some playing or coaching background.
Is coaching paid?
Many roles include a stipend or benefit such as a comped player registration; amounts vary by program and are set by the board. Your coordinator will explain what applies to your role.
Can I request a specific team or my own child's team?
You can tell us your preferences in the application, and we'll do our best, though assignments depend on club needs.
2026 Coaches and Team Managers
Grand Rapids Area Soccer Club is always looking for coaches and volunteers to work with our players — summer through winter, across travel teams, in-house programs, tournaments, and Little NetBusters. This application is our single, year-round intake for every coaching and volunteer role. Submitting it puts you on our radar; it does not commit you to a specific team or season.
Tell us a bit about yourself, the roles and age groups you're interested in, your availability, and any coaching or playing experience. Every submission is captured in our member database, reviewed by our Director of Coaching and the relevant program coordinator, and tracked from application through approval.
Which role are you interested in? Let us know whether you'd like to serve as a Head Coach, Assistant Coach, or Team Manager — you're welcome to select more than one:
Head Coach — leads the team. Runs practices, sets the lineup and game-day strategy, communicates with families, and is the team's main point of contact with the club and coordinators.
Assistant Coach — supports the head coach at practices and games, helps run drills and manage the bench, and steps in to lead when the head coach is unavailable.
Team Manager — handles the off-field logistics so coaches can focus on the players: roster and schedule communication, tournament and event sign-ups, paperwork and player cards, and coordinating volunteers.
Please note: before any coach or volunteer is assigned to a team, GRASC requires a completed background check, SafeSport certification, and concussion training, consistent with MYSA and US Youth Soccer requirements. Approved coaches receive their applicable stipend or benefit, the Club Handbook, and a team assignment.
